Moving Forward: Bucket Lists, Goals, and Dream Boards

First, I want to say thanks to all the supportive comments from Tuesday’s post.  We’re moving forward today and talking about bucket lists, goals, and dream boards.

Dream boards are making the rounds, aren’t they?

I haven’t made a dream board this year – or ever – but I did write up a bucket list of 100 things back in 2011 that I haven’t looked at again since then.  Last weekend, I wondered how many I had actually completed since it was originally written. The answer: 10. That’s not very good.  One of my most memorable commenters would say that’s only 10% and she would be right.

Hmm…  That got me thinking about the purpose of a bucket list: a dwindling list of things to do before you die.  Well, I don’t like that idea.  Once I scratch one item off, I guess I’d rather replace it with another item.  And that to me sounds more like a list of goals.  So, I’m kicking the bucket list and making it my goal list.

While revisiting my original list of 100, I realized some were just plain stupid. I think I was reaching so just to reach a total of 100. So, as I edit, I’ll share a couple from the 10 I’ve completed.

Meet the cast of the original Beverly Hills, 90210. Or at least Tori Spelling.
Yes, I am a 90120 super nerd. It was a huge part of my youth. Some had the Beatles, I had the Walshes.

Be a centerfold. Here’s the online version from the Orange County Register.
I’m still basking in this glory – four years later.

Meet a Top Chef.  Check out me and Top Chef Richard Blais.
Dining at his Atlanta restaurant is still one of my goals!

Participate in a breast cancer clinical study.
Sign, sealed, delivered the last week of December 2012.

See Madonna perform live. October, 2012.

Ride the New York subway system.
Not as terrifying as I imagined.

I can’t wait to share my revised list with you! I’m planning on making a bunch of them happen in 2013. Something like writing a new story. Who’s with me?

  1. Wow! You’ve done some pretty good stuff…. met Tori Spelling. a top chef, and so much more! I can tell you that it’s great and more than I’ve done. Except the riding the subway… I’ve done that a few time!

  2. I’m in! I’ll make a list of goals, as I don’t like the term “bucket list” either. Oh, and your centerfold pic is darling. The article with it was nicely done as well. Don’t you hate it when doctors say “good cancer?” I was told the same thing. Talk about an oxymoron!

  3. I love it!!! Yes, the buket list just means that everytime you complete something you are closer to getting ready to die. Nonsense I say! Love your spin on it!
