Are We Following Each Other on Instagram?

Are we following each other on Instagram?

I was going through my Instagram stream last night and looking at the photos of the 177 people I follow.  Most of them are people I hardly know and may have never met in real life.  This got me wondering why I don’t follow more people I actually know.  I mean, I find Gina from Philly and Elisabeth from San Jose very interesting but I’m not emotionally invested.  I scroll by maybe throwing some love their way and maybe stopping to comment if it’s something that really strikes me but other than that I’m not quite sure what the point is but I still manage to spend a fair amount of time looking at their photos.

Now, I do know Heidi from high school and my neighbor Dana.  Also, my little sister and a couple of her friends.  Another mom from the preschool class and an old college classmate.  I might linger a little longer and read the other comments left on their pictures.  These are the photos I truly enjoy looking at because I do care about their day-to-day.  I’m interested in what she wore or where they ate.  If their kids slept through the night or got a new dolly for Christmas.  I even like the braggy-kind-of-photos because I enjoy celebrating with others (don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying these friends share Instabrag photos but if they did I’d still like them)!

Like the rest of my life, I guess I need to balance things out a bit.  I need to increase my “following” number to include more of the real people in my life.  Oh, but here’s one itty-bitty problem.  It’s exceptionally difficult to find people!  So, if you’re on Instagram and think we should be following each other then you can find me here on Instagram .  Or, leave a link to your Instagram in the comments and I’ll be sure to follow you!

And now I’ll leave you with some of my own favorite Instagram photos.  I wonder what this gallery says about my day-to-day life.  You tell me.

Comments

  1. I follow you! I love Instagram… I like the little peak into peoples every day lives.

  2. Instagram is funny. I always think I am following people and then I check and I am not. Following now!

  3. I don’t really get Instagram. Or twitter. And that makes me feel like my mother. So I have instagram and twitter accounts, because I want to be hip and cool like everyone else (except my mother). Does it count if I have them but barely use them?!

  4. I love the Adam or Arthur Fonzarelli picture.
First, I love that you know who Arthur Fonzarelli even is (there are so many bloggers who are just too young).

Second, I’m the big geek who saw Henry Winkler on a plane from NY to LA after Xmas and nearly went into convulsions (I had the chance to meet him when I was a kid – I saw the “jumping the shark” episode of Happy Days at the beach and when it was my turn to say hi, I ran – I was 6 or 8). I Tweeted to HW while I was on the plane and he Tweeted back and he may have heard me shriek from the back of the plane.

Love your blog and your writing!

    • Who you call old, Melissa?!

HA! I love that you are a Henry Winkler stalker. Too funny! Thanks for sharing your story!!
