French Vanilla Date Smoothie

I grew up drinking Carnation Breakfast Essentials. Not only are they tasty but super easy to make and take in the morning or as a great afternoon pick me up. The classic Carnation Breakfast Essentials yellow box has been a pantry staple for as long as I can remember. You can’t beat the Rich Chocolate Milk flavor made straight up with ice cold milk. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to be more creative with the powder drink mix. My go to smoothie recipe is made with one packet of Rich Chocolate Milk, 1 cup almond milk, a scoop of peanut butter and a frozen banana. With 21 vitamins and minerals, 13 grams of protein and as much calcium as a 6 ounce cup of yogurt, I love this smoothie after my morning workout!

Carnations Breakfast Essentials Date Smoothie

Two years ago, my little one and I started a tradition on Monday afternoons called Ice Cream Monday. We have probably visited every ice cream and frozen yogurt shop in and around Orange County in those two years. One of our favorite ocean front ice cream shops serves a killer date shake. Yes, dates! It’s so totally delicious and was the inspiration for this Carnation Breakfast Essentials Date Smoothie!

Recipe type: Smoothie
  • 1 packet Carnation Breakfast Essentials Classic French Vanilla
  • 3 Fancy Medjool Dates, pitted and pre soaked
  • 1 sliced banana, frozen
  • 1 1/2 cup almond milk
  • Dash of cinnamon
  1. Remove the pit from dates (slice off one end of each date and squeeze pit out).
  2. Halve each date.
  3. Put dates in a shallow container and cover with 1/2 almond milk. Refrigerate for at least 1/2 hour.
  4. Empty one packet of Carnation Breakfast Essentials Classic French Vanilla and 1 cup almond milk into blender and mix.
  5. Add dates and blend well.
  6. Add frozen banana slices and cinnamon, blend again.

Don’t be afraid of using dates in your smoothies! They are naturally sweet, great for aiding in digestion and full of iron for increased energy. By rehydrating the dates in almond milk before making your smoothie, the dates will blend to a smooth consistency. If you like your smoothie with more texture, you can skip this step.

The Carnation Breakfast Essentials Date Smoothie is great for breakfast or an afternoon pick me up before sports or homework. You can use any of the great flavors such as Rich Milk Chocolate, Classic French Vanilla, Classic Chocolate Malt, Dark Chocolate, Strawberry Sensation as the base to your smoothie recipes.
